Why My Generation Needs to be Patient

We always want things, it’s normal for people to want things. But when it comes to my generation, we want those things now. I’m not talking about wanting materialistic things, or the latest trends, i’m talking about a relationship. A hotter body. A degree. A job. An apartment of their own. My generation has no patience, and I think it’s something we all need.
When we were young we couldn’t wait to go to high school. To walk up and down the hallways and go to proms and have a relationship. Then we wanted to rush into college where we would play sports, join a club, go to parties, essentially figure out what we wanted to do with our life. Before we know it we were rushing through college saying we can’t wait to get an apartment and have a job and become an adult. Well woah woah woah, slow down. Rewind all the way back to middle school and don’t even mention the idea of growing up. Take your time living life and don’t rush through a single day!
Coming from a girl who is about to graduate college in May, I can honestly tell you I regret all the times I didn’t have patience. High school was the best four years of my life. I spent my weeks goofing around in the library with my friends, pushing tables in the cafeteria together so all my friends could sit next to each other because god forbid we didn’t share plates of cookies and help each other cram for the test in the next class after lunch. On the weekends we would go to dances and make signs for all the sporting events. I loved high school and would give anything to relive those years. The day came when I wore a blue gown and threw my cap in the air because I was about to head into another four years of school. These years would be different. This is when I would discover a whole new group of friends, spend long hours in the library studying for exams, and don’t forget dancing till 3am followed by an uber ride to McDonald's for some nuggets and a large fry.

So to the kids in my generation, and anyone else for that matter. Let me break it down for you, life is beautiful and we are so unbelievably lucky to live the lives we do! Don’t rush through the good years, because before you know it you will be hundreds of miles away from your best friends and only see each other for holidays because your dream job took you to one city and theirs took them to another. Oh, and that job you’re worried about getting after college? You’ll get it. I know it’s scary and you’re freaking out because people are posting about what job they landed and you still haven’t heard back from anyone, but trust me you will get a job after college and you are going to do amazing! And while I’m at it, stop worrying about that boy or girl that you’re so in love with. I’m all for fighting for the ones you love, but don’t forget to love yourself and live life. Things take time, so don’t rush it. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I’m sure it’s nothing but beautiful! Lastly, you’re one awesome person with a rockin body. Don’t even think about paying for those detox packages the celebrities use that will ‘help you drop 20 pounds in one week!’ Yea no, don’t do that. Things take time and trust me, you’ve got plenty of it. Take a step back and look at the life in front of you. Don’t rush through it at all. All your hopes and dreams will come true, things just take some time.
So have some patience.
Peace and Pizza,
Ashley
